The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Okechukwu Ahaiwe, challenging the election of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party.
The tribunal, in a unanimous decision, held that the petitioners failed to prove their allegations of electoral irregularities and that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The tribunal also ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to entertain the petitioners’ allegations regarding Otti’s qualification to contest the election and the validity of the LP’s governorship primary.
Finally, the tribunal held that the petitioners failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Otti did not score the majority of the lawful votes cast or that the election was marred by corrupt practices and irregularities.
