A High Court sitting in Abuja has just invalidated the arrest and detention of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Presiding judge, Bello Kawu, granted the order on Friday, July 14, following an application by Emefiele.
It was recalled that on June 9, 2023 Tinubu suspended Emefiele as CBN Governor and directed him to hand over his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi.

Then, the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed the next day that Emefiele was in its custody for “some investigative reasons.”
Emefiele who have remained in DSS custody since then, have been saying he did nothing wrong to warrant the treatment. Meanwhile, the DSS have vehemently said they obtained a legal court order to keep him in their coffers.
