A fire incident which was said to have destroyed goods worth billions of naira happened in Ariaria International Market, Aba.
State Fire Controller Nnanna Arua, who confirmed the incident, said more than 30 shops were levelled in the blaze, which was attributed to a faulty power supply.
Arua said when alerted to the fire outbreak around 11:00 p.m last Saturday, he immediately contacted the service’s Aba department to take the necessary action.

According to him, when firefighters arrived, they found that residents were already struggling to put out the raging fire, leaving officials with no easy access to the fire sites.
However, Arua said no one was killed in the blaze, which took more than three hours to extinguish.
The governor of abia state, Alex Otti have since delegated the Commisioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu and the Senior Special Assistant on Aba Rejuvenation, Mr. Uche Ukeje to inspect and make assessment and recomendations on the site.
