Former Nigeria international and Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu has been appointed chairman of Enyimba FC, the most successful club in Nigerian football history.
The Abia State government announced the appointment on Thursday, July 13, 2023. Kanu will take over from Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who has served as chairman for the past 24 years.
Kanu is a hugely respected figure in Nigerian football. He won the African Player of the Year award in 1999 and 2000, and played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Arsenal, Inter Milan, and Ajax.

He is also a successful businessman, and is the founder of the Kanu Heart Foundation, which provides free heart surgery to children in Africa.
Kanu’s appointment is a major coup for Enyimba, and he will be expected to help the club regain their position as one of the leading clubs in Africa.
Enyimba have won the Nigerian Premier League a record 8 times, and the CAF Champions League twice.
The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti had since sent his congratulatory message to Kanu which he posted on Twitter.
