The establishment of The Sun Newspaper, also known as The Daily Sun was on the 29th of March, 2001. The Sun Media Group, an organization, established it.

The company is based in Lagos. It began firstly as a weekly production of newspapers on 18th January 2003. But on the 16th of June 2003, it transitioned to a daily newspaper.

THE SUN NEWSPAPER’S AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • To reach all of Nigeria’s socioeconomic (upper, middle, and lower) classes.
  • To build a newspaper that is distinct from other newspaper publications in terms of professionalism.
  • To infuse authenticity into the media world.

ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SUN NEWSPAPER

The Sun newspaper is quickly establishing itself as one of Nigeria’s most influential news organizations. In an interview with Mr. Damola Lajumoke, the manager of the Sales and Distribution department at the time.

He is presently the company’s general manager, he stated that out of all the newspapers in Nigeria.

The Sun newspaper was the first to adopt tabloids. In addition, The Sun Newspapper also recorded sales of over 20,000 copies in its debut edition.

In 2011, The Sun had a daily print run of 130,000 copies, 135,000 for weekend titles, and over 80% of its copies sold on daily print.

As a result of these impressive sales figures, They became the highest-selling newspaper in Nigeria. When compared to other newspapers, Sun Newspapers has maintained its audience’s interest since its inception.

The Sun has accomplished this by presenting a wide range of issues with eye-catching headlines that entice readers to read the entire narrative behind any headline.

THE SUN NEWSPAPER’S CORE MEMBERS

The Chairman/owner of The Sun Newspaper is Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Governor of Abia State. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is also the owner and manager of the SLOK group of companies.

Mike Awoyinfa was the initial managing editor of The Sun before Tony Onyima took over in January 2010.

Femi Adesina, who is the Special Adviser, Media, and Publicity to President Muhammad Buhari replaced the late Dimgba Igwe. Dimgba Igwe is the first pioneer deputy editor-in-chief.

In 2015, Osagie Eric succeeded Adesina as Managing Editor/Editor-in-Chief. The Sun’s core was first defined via interviews that Osagie Eric was able to get.

His important interviews with Shehu Shagari, TY Danguma, Muhammad Buhari, Mohammed Abacha, Victor Malu, and Emeka Odumegwu-Ojuklwu increased the visibility and recognition of The Sun Newspaper among Nigerians.

Osagie was replaced by Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, who is currently the Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Newspaper after his term expired. Mr. Onuoha Ukeh is currently working hard to redesign The Sun newspaper and bring it up to worldwide standards.

The Sun newspaper is located at 2, Coscharis Street, Off Happy Home Avenue, Kirikiri Industrial Layout, P. M. B. 21776 Ikeja, Lagos, and is published in English.
