The Academic Staff Union (ASSU) called off one of the longest strikes a few weeks ago. The strike lasted for about eight-month after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government in the past weeks.

The leaders of ASSU made a regional report on the 14th of October. As a result, it was voted that the strike should be suspended.

Furthermore, the move was considered following the court’s order demanding that the lecturers return to lessons. NEC also made a promise to pay the backlog salaries of lecturers in two months.
The anticipation grew among both the senior and the junior lecturers as the month was about to fade out.
However, reports from academics revealed that just half of their salaries were paid for the month of October. The FG has so lost the basic agreement between the two bodies.

Some lecturers are of the opinion that calling off the strike was a wrong decision, and the action of the NEC has justified that.
